Cryotech Deicing Technology

Cryotech Deicing Technology, at 6103 Orthoway in Fort Madison, Iowa, is a division of General Atomics International Services Corporation; General Atomics bought Chevron Chemical's deicing business, including the Fort Madison plant, in 1992, and Cryotech has made aircraft Type I and IV fluids there since 2010 under ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Amy Munday became president in January 2025.

The aircraft fluids are all propylene glycol with a two-year warranty: Polar Plus LT (Type I, AMS1424/1, orange, minimum 88% PG, LOUT −27 °F at a 63/37 dilution), Polar Guard Advance (Type IV, AMS1428/1, ready to use, LOUT −23 °F) and Polar Guard Xtend (Type IV, LOUT −20 °F, longer holdover in snow and freezing drizzle). Packaging is 55-gallon drums with a four-drum minimum, 265-gallon totes (one minimum) and bulk from 5,000 gallons. FBOs buy direct — quote and order forms, 800-346-7237, empty-tote pickup, sample kits, GSA Advantage, after-hours on-call from September 1 to May 31 — or through Avfuel's branded network, which distributes the Polar line. Runway and pavement products are E36 and LC17 (liquid potassium acetate, AMS1435), NAAC (solid sodium acetate), QS50, CF7 and CMA, plus Glacier lavatory fluids; the QC lab runs viscosity, RI, pH and density analyses case by case, and Cryotech offers blend-bag-ship and toll production.
