Fiber SenSys

Fiber SenSys Inc. was incorporated in 1990 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of OPTEX Co., Ltd., which trades on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Its manufacturing and design headquarters are just outside Portland, Oregon; the site does not name the city. The company reports more than six million meters of installed fiber and more than 15,000 alarm processor units sold, and says its Fiber Defender processors hold the U.S. military's Priority Level-One Nuclear rating for perimeter security. Jim Mauk, who joined in 2017 from sister company OPTEX, is president and chief executive.

Its transportation page covers airports, rail and seaports. The airport argument is about interference: radar and radio emissions can trigger false alarms in electrical or electromagnetic sensors, and an all-fiber sensor is unaffected by them. Fiber SenSys recommends fiber-optic fence-mounted intrusion detection for fence lines, backed by microwave sensors for open areas. The Fiber Defender alarm processors analyze the fiber signal and report the zone of a cut or climb, and the sensors are also sold for protecting data network cabling.

Fiber SenSys sells through integrators and third-party solution partners, offers registered product training and a documentation portal, and does not publish pricing. Its airport material is general and names no airport customers. Parent OPTEX also makes outdoor security sensors and entrance controls, which the site describes as part of the same group. The company says its Fiber Defender line has been evaluated and certified for U.S. military perimeters and for government physical data protection.
