About Massachusetts Business Aviation Association
The Massachusetts Business Aviation Association (MBAA) lists a post office box in Wayland, Massachusetts, and states its purpose as promoting, educating and advocating for business and general aviation in the state. Its stated focus covers safety, security, operational effectiveness, community relations, government relations and environmental concerns. MBAA says its membership includes some of the state's largest corporations that own, lease or charter aircraft, along with support businesses such as manufacturers, fixed base operators, maintenance shops, flight schools and caterers, plus individual aircraft owners. Dave Richter is president and Russ Arena is executive director, working with a volunteer board of about a dozen members.
For FBOs, MBAA is the statewide room where Massachusetts corporate flight departments gather. Its event calendar includes MBAA Aviation Day, a safety day and safety dinner, a golf tournament and informal networking gatherings hosted at member flight departments and companies. A Government Affairs Committee works at the state and local level. The scholarship program typically awards $2,000 to $5,000 per student, has awarded more than $75,000 to date, and is open to Massachusetts residents or students at Massachusetts schools in aviation degree, flight training, maintenance, cabin attendant and air traffic programs.
MBAA publishes its prices. Corporate and flight department membership is $500 a year, covers up to four designated individuals and up to ten discounted tickets per event, and names FBOs, caterers and maintenance companies as eligible. Individual membership is $100 and student membership $25. Sponsorship runs from a $2,500 Premier Flight Department package through Silver ($3,000) and Gold ($5,000) to Platinum ($7,000), with golf foursomes, event tables and logo placement. When checked in October 2026 the online event calendar showed no upcoming events and the scholarship page still referred to the 2025 application.
