Owen-Ames-Kimball

Owen-Ames-Kimball, known as O-A-K, is a general contractor and construction manager whose site gives a founding date of 1891 and places its parent company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It has teams in Michigan, Florida and Colorado. The Florida operation, O-A-K Florida, Inc., is an employee-owned affiliate that has worked in Southwest Florida since 1982 from offices in Collier and Lee counties, including Fort Myers. Most of its portfolio is schools, civic, healthcare and commercial buildings; aviation is a smaller market on its projects page.

Its aviation work is what puts it in this category. The Charlotte County Airport Authority chose O-A-K and SchenkelShultz Architecture as the design-build team for a new standalone FBO hangar in Punta Gorda Airport's Aviation Expansion Area: about 14,400 square feet with offices and restrooms to serve transient customers, with O-A-K handling programming, design, scheduling and construction. Its aviation projects also list general aviation terminal renovations for the Naples Airport Authority and an aircraft hangar for Junkers Aircraft Corporation.

O-A-K offers general contracting, design-build and construction management, so an airport sponsor can use it under a conventional bid or a design-build procurement like Punta Gorda's. It does not publish pricing. It is a regional builder rather than a hangar manufacturer: the building system and doors come from suppliers chosen with the architect, so owners comparing it with a pre-engineered hangar maker should ask which structure and door systems it proposes.
