Starr Aviation

Starr Aviation is a division of Starr Indemnity & Liability Company, part of Starr, a commercial insurance and investment group that says it has more than 100 years of history and works in more than 170 countries. Its aviation underwriters write general aviation, airline and aerospace business through approved agents and brokers. Starr's workers' compensation companies, Starr Indemnity & Liability and Starr Specialty Insurance, are listed with A.M. Best ratings of A, Financial Size Category XV. The aviation pages do not state a headquarters city; Starr's news pages refer to a New York office.

Its general aviation page lists fixed base operators, aircraft maintenance and service providers, aircraft fueling and ground services, and airport concessionaires and service operators among the businesses eligible for aviation general liability, next to hull and liability for corporate, charter, helicopter, instruction and personal operators. Brokers can quote smaller U.S. airports online; a 2013 release described the system as covering airports with liability limits of $10 million or less and up to one million annual enplanements, with exposure data pulled from FAA records. The aviation workers' compensation program names fixed base operators and general aviation service providers and handles claims through Sedgwick and Gallagher Bassett.

Starr also offers on-site safety and loss control assessments of flight operations, aircraft maintenance, aviation ground operations, airport operations and employee safety programs. For manufactured products liability the same page cites $50 million in capacity with quota-share and excess options. It does not publish rates. Its underwriters say they tailor each program to the client's operation. FBOs reach it through an aviation broker appointed with Starr, which can use the online system for qualifying airport accounts.
